Botvin’s LifeSkills Training
Helping Students Make Healthy Choices
Did you know that nearly 2,000 4th and 6th grade students in Linn County take part in LifeSkills prevention training each year?
The Linn County Alcohol & Other Drug Prevention Program offers Botvin’s LifeSkills Training to all Linn County school districts—without cost to them.
What is LifeSkills Training?
LifeSkills is an 8–10 week program that helps students avoid alcohol, tobacco and other drug use. Instead of just giving facts about drug use, LifeSkills Training helps students make healthier choices through activities and home assignments that:
- Teach how to resist peer pressure to use alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs
- Build self-esteem and confidence
- Teach ways to handle stress and anxiety
- Explain the negative effects of substance abuse
- Develop skills to avoid risky behaviors
LifeSkills has been tested and proven to work. Students who complete the training are less likely to use drugs or alcohol and more likely to avoid risky behaviors.
